Trip templates

A template is not a finished trip with prices, it is the list of what such a trip usually contains. You put the prices in: an amount taken out of thin air would quietly reach the total and lie in the comparison.

Five templates

• A two-day weekend

  A short trip where the flight looks like the main expense. In practice two nights, food and the ride from the airport together often outweigh the ticket.

• A week by the sea

  Seven nights in one place: the flight is counted once here and everything else is multiplied by days — so the total is decided by a night and a day, not by the tickets.

• A business trip

  A business trip is counted differently: few nights and many taxis, and what is needed up front is not an average estimate but a sum the finance department will accept.

• Two cities in one trip

  Two cities in one trip add what a single-city trip does not have: a transfer in the middle that costs both money and half a day.

• Mountains and skiing

  In the mountains it is not the lodging that is expensive but the day on the slope: the lift pass and the rental are counted per day and over a week they catch up with the flight.
